Missouri runs 13 casino floors, and eight of them sit in the two big metros. The other five are scattered along the state's rivers, and they share one trait the city properties do not: every one of the five closes its doors at some point during the week. St. Jo Frontier and Mark Twain shut at 2am on weeknights, the two Century floors go dark from 4am to 8am on weekdays, and Boonville does not open until 8am any day. If you are driving out from a metro after dark, that schedule matters more than the slot count. Every Missouri casino requires players to be 21.

Kansas City: four on the Missouri River

The Kansas City side has Ameristar, the biggest floor with 59 tables and an 18-screen cinema but no poker since 2020; Harrah's North Kansas City, home to the metro's 15-table WSOP room; Argosy at Riverside, with a high-limit room spreading double-deck blackjack; and Bally's, the compact two-level boat near downtown.

St. Louis area: four more, three with a Wednesday pause

Ameristar St. Charles is the state's top-rated property at 4.2 and its 130,000 square feet make it the largest. River City in Lemay carries 55 tables and a low-stakes poker room, Hollywood at Maryland Heights runs a 20-table poker room and 502 rooms near the airport, and Horseshoe sits under the Arch with a 10-table WSOP room. Horseshoe, Hollywood and River City each close for a short maintenance window early on Wednesday mornings.

The outstate five

Isle of Capri Boonville is the only floor along I-70 between the metros, moored on the Missouri about half an hour west of Columbia. Its 28,000 square feet hold somewhere between 600 and 800-plus machines depending on whose count you trust, plus 16 tables and a 140-room tower. It is also one of the last places still trading under the Isle of Capri name, though play earns Caesars Rewards.

Century Casino Cape Girardeau opened in October 2012 as the thirteenth licence, and the cap means no further licence has been issued since. It sits in the historic downtown on the Mississippi, roughly two hours south of St. Louis, with 800-plus slots, 19 tables and the 69-room Riverview Hotel added in April 2024.

Century Casino Caruthersville, in the Bootheel about ninety minutes further south, is the newest building in the state. A $51.9 million land casino replaced the old riverboat on 1 November 2024, bringing 599 slots, nine live tables and 74 rooms. Older reviews describe the retired boat, so check dates.

Mark Twain Casino at La Grange, about twenty minutes upriver from Hannibal, packs 600-plus machines and 13 tables into 18,000 square feet. There is no hotel, but an eight-space RV park opens from March to October.

St. Jo Frontier at St. Joseph, an hour north of Kansas City on I-29, opened in June 1994 as one of the original four. It is now the second-smallest floor in Missouri, with 400-plus slots and a few tables including Mississippi Stud. Affinity Gaming runs both it and Mark Twain.
